Wool to Weave - Icelandic Sheep -

we plan to offer this again in Spring 2027

In this series of workshops we explore processing an Icelandic wool fleece to spinning yarn and finally to weave with the handspun yarn. The wool we will be working with have beautiful natural colors as seen on the sheep photo. The yarn and weaving will lean toward more earth tones.

You can choose to participate in all of the series or individual sessions

Cost for all three sessions includes workshop and all materials $375

(Workshop size max. 6)

Pre-Session - Visit local sheep farm - For participants signing up for all sessions

Sunday, September 20 9:00 am - noon

No cost when signing up for all three sessions

You will watch and learn about the shearing process and about Icelandic sheep.

Information will be given at sign up for Wool to Weave Series all.

Session 1 Wool Fleece

Sunday, November 8 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Cost: $150 for individual class

Materials included: freshly shorn fleece, soap, mordant and dyes

We will skirt a freshly shorn wool fleece, wash the fiber and dye the fleece

and commercial yarn for the next session for final weaving project

Session 2 Carding and Spinning the fleece

Sunday, November 15, 2026 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Cost: $150 for individual class

Materials and equipment included: wool fiber, carding tools, drop spindle (to keep) and use of

spinning wheel during workshop

Learn the creativity and relaxation of spinning your own yarn using hand cards and drum carder to initially prepare the fiber. Then use a drop spindle and spinning wheel from the carded fiber

exploring the process of spinning wool into yarn. Beginning in slow motion with simple drop spindle working up to using a spinning wheel. Your first yarn will likely be lumpy and bumpy and curly and beautiful.

If you have your own working spinning wheel, please talk to instructor prior to first day of workshop.

Session 3 Rigid Heddle Weaving

Sunday, November 22 , 2026 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Cost: $150 for individual class

Materials and equipment included: wool yarn and your handspun yarn, use of rigid heddle

during workshop.

We will use commercial yarn, your handspun yarn and dyed fleece to weave a wall hanging

or table runner. You will learn to set up and weave on a rigid heddle loom.

NOTE: The yarn and weaving will lean toward more earth tones.

Beginners encouraged and welcome

Welcome to Spinning 101! This class is designed for brand new spinners who are eager to learn the basics of spinning. We will guide you through transforming loose fiber into yarn. Each participant will receive 2oz of prepared fiber and an Ashford drop spindle.

What You’ll Learn:

Basics of Spinning: Understand the fundamental techniques of spinning with a drop spindle.
Fiber and Yarn Attributes: Learn about the basic attributes of different fibers and the characteristics of yarn.
Troubleshooting: Gain tips on how to troubleshoot common spinning issues.
Spinning Tools: Get an overview of essential spinning tools and how to use them.

Class Structure:

First Class: Build your confidence by learning to spin a single.
Second Class: Ply your singles together to create a finished yarn.

By the end of this class, you will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of spinning yarn. You’ll also receive resources to continue your spinning journey, either on your own or in future classes with us.
