Spin Your Yarn (Spinning Wheel)- Introduction

           Cost: $75 includes wool fiber 

 

Beginners encouraged and welcome

 

This 4 hour introduction workshop will introduce you to the art of twisting wool fiber into yarn using a spinning wheel.

                

Learn the relaxation of spinning your own yarn using a spinning wheel. We will explore the process of spinning wool into yarn beginning in slow motion with simple tools working up to using a spinning wheel. You will learn about fiber preparation. Your first yarn will likely be lumpy and bumpy and curly and beautiful. Spinning wheels and fiber will be provided in workshop.

If you have your own working spinning wheel, please talk to instructor prior to first day of workshop.

Material fee includes use of spinning wheel at the studio on day of workshop

Welcome to Spinning 101! This class is designed for brand new spinners who are eager to learn the basics of spinning.  We will guide you through transforming loose fiber into yarn. Each participant will receive 2oz of prepared fiber and an Ashford drop spindle.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Basics of Spinning: Understand the fundamental techniques of spinning with a drop spindle.

  • Fiber and Yarn Attributes: Learn about the basic attributes of different fibers and the characteristics of yarn.

  • Troubleshooting: Gain tips on how to troubleshoot common spinning issues.

  • Spinning Tools: Get an overview of essential spinning tools and how to use them.

Class Structure:

  • First Class: Build your confidence by learning to spin a single.

  • Second Class: Ply your singles together to create a finished yarn.

By the end of this class, you will have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of spinning yarn. You’ll also receive resources to continue your spinning journey, either on your own or in future classes with us.
